Buffoonery: The word that describes the actions of folks who attended the Fishing Camp 05 gathering at Cook forest. Debauchery, horseplay, rowdiness and drunkenness also all come to mind.

FC05 will go down as yet another of the Fishing Camp fairy tales. No longer is it rugged, nor about fishing. It is a drunkards playground, full of shenanigans, and Tom Foolery. The beautiful weather, the beautiful women, and the mass amounts of alcohol led to the self destruction of some 48 individuals, who could only hope to have this amount of fun ever again in their life.

A wise drunk man at this years event made a very famous quote, yet he probably doesn't remember,

"There is the way that it should be, and then, there is just the way that it is."

This was the way that it was. The "adults" of Fishing Camp behaved like high-schoolers after the prom, but this went for 3 days straight. Camp life was soaked up by all, including the "rednecks," who we had befriended just one year prior and once again were camping nearby. I personally watched as these "family figures" of the redneck community behaved in such a manner, that they may have seriously diminished the way that their kids look up to them for the rest of their lives. Yes indeed my friends, this was the way it was.

How did this happen you may ask? FC05 started with a Friday morning at the beer distributor, where the camp's beer tab came to $292. This was for 6 kegs, and 9 cases of drunk fuel. So much beer was bought that we had to reorganize about 4 different vehicles in order to transport the beer there.

What else caused this? Fishing Camp is gaining world wide recognition. People came from everywhere. Japan, California, North Carolina, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, and some brave souls who drove 17 hours straight through the night all the way from Minnesota, just to be in attendance. That is devotion. This isn't your average camp.

What events at Fishing Camp are worth mentioning? Well there were many. I would like to first say the savagery that was displayed by all who ate the pig was quite impressive. Disregarding the fear of pain, people were ripping the flesh of the pig (still steaming hot) with bare hands, only to shove the swine immediately into their mouths. By the end of the night, all that remained was the head and some random bones scattered about. Hats off to the ... for his work on getting that piggy cooked.

Another highlight was when the camp's owner's brother drank with us for a while, only to impair his quad driving ability to the point where he crashed his quad (loaded up with four other people) into the ... Blazer, knocking it out of gear. This, in turn, sent the Blazer rolling towards the cabin and a handful of people. Luckily though, the Blazer's back tire got caught up on the stump it was resting on and impeded its progress towards disaster.

Saturday's fishing was very unsuccessful. 2 fish were caught, and only 3 more were added on Sunday. Maybe the fish can smell booze.

Saturday night, more people showed up, including RJ who brought with him the FC flag which sported a freshly sewn '05. Then, at precisely 10:30, we rode the tiger. What happens at Fishing Camp stays at Fishing Camp. That's all I can say about that one. Come for yourself if you really must know.

Another memorable experience was Phil and Tim's drunken tirade that lasted well into Sunday morning. These two clowns stayed up drinking all night. In the morning they discovered the joy of throwing all the camp furniture onto the roof of one of the cabins, and chastising Tex, who drank too much and took a nap in the grass between two of the cabins.

Sunday was our down day. Only 8 of us stayed the night, and we only managed to kill one half barrel between the 8 of us. I guess Fishing Camp took its toll on us all.

Well, check out the pictures and see what you think. Hope to see all of you back next year, April 14th, 15th, and 16th, for FC06.
